Descriptions are very important data elements for selling products in a physical store or online, so we provide a few different types of descriptions. Depending on the package to which you are subscribed, you may receive one or all of these descriptions. Each description is explained below. If your subscription provides access to all types, the descriptions should be utilized in the order below. We recommend that you use the publisher marketing as your primary description and fill in with the other descriptions as needed. (Please note that we do not have 100% coverage for descriptions on all titles.)
- Publisher Marketing Descriptions: This is the main description and has the largest coverage of all the description types. It consists of descriptive copy that appears in publisher catalogs and flyers. Some packages include Limited Publisher Marketing only (first 100 characters).
- Brief Descriptions: This is a short description provided by the publisher, typically less than 350 characters. Some publishers will choose to send a Brief Description instead of a Publisher Marketing Description.
- Jacket Descriptions (Jacket Flap and Jacket Back): The jacket flap and back descriptions are supplied by the publisher and represent the text found on the front flap or back of the book.
- Annotations: This description was gathered from several sources, primarily within Ingram. The publicity and time-sensitive information are removed, leaving a short description of the item.
