The Family data is proprietary to Ingram and links an intellectual property of work across different formats (e.g., paperback, hardcover, audio, etc.). It works like the “Other Formats” option on many websites.
The Family ID is assigned based on a proprietary process. An Item Sequence ID is assigned to each EAN as it is added to the Family.
Usage Suggestions:
- Display “Other Formats” hyperlink on your Title Detail page, and link the Family ID from a main bibliographic file to the Family ID in the Family file. Pull all matching records and display in your default sort order.
- Filter and sort suggestions:
- Use the Publication Date from the Inventory file to sort the newest titles to the top of your page.
- Use the Desire ranking to display ranked titles at the top of your page.
- Use the Inventory file to display active titles only.
- Note: By using the Family ID, you can display all related titles together, but please be aware that not all titles will be in print or available to sell. Therefore, depending on your FTP subscription, you may not have matching bibliographic data for all titles grouped within a Family.
