The Desirability of a title provides a ranking based on a proprietary calculation within Ingram. This ranking will allow you to sort your database by demand (as seen in ipage and other Ingram products) to show Ingram’s top-selling items. Every title that has had any activity will have a Desire ranking, even new releases.
The higher the desirability number, the greater the demand is for the item. Since this is a calculated number, we don’t have an end number. We suggest you sort this information in descending order; the highest number is the most desired item.
Note: The value is a proprietary calculation using a variety of factors over a rolling period. You may not see a huge movement for a specific title from week to week, but the Desire is updated weekly.
File Usage Suggestions:
- Link to the main bibliographic file. The higher the desirability number, the greater the demand is for the item.
- Display best-selling titles — When presenting titles, sort descending by the desirability number.
- Display the top titles for the following:
- BISAC subject category (Example: Top 5 business titles, Top 25 children’s books)
- Author (Example: Top 5 titles by John Grisham)
- Publisher (Example: Top 10 titles from Simon and Schuster
