Book Industry Study and Communication (BISAC) Subject Headings and Subject Codes are a standard used throughout the book industry to categorize books based on topical content. This information can determine where the item is stored in a library or bookstore, as well as how it is categorized on a website.
BISG (Book Industry Study Group) adds and removes codes within their list each year to keep up with changing times. You can visit their website to find the current list of BISAC codes: www.bisg.org.
Ingram Data Services packages do include BISAC codes. Depending upon the package to which you are subscribed, records may contain one or more BISAC Subject codes. (It is not a requirement for publishers to provide a BISAC code, so there may be some titles that do not contain a BISAC.)
BISAC codes are updated within the weekly titles files.
