Data Filtering is useful if you want to limit the items that will be made available to your customers or if you have limitations based on your data.
Note: Using data that is not included in your license is a violation. Failure to adhere to any filtering requirement based on your data license will result in immediate termination.
The benefits of filtering:
- Decreased time to perform table updates.
- Easier to maintain data integrity.
- Improved system performance and customer response time.
- Reduced disc consumption.
Data filtering can be accomplished in a variety of ways. Based on the ever-growing number of titles provided by Ingram, we recommend the following:
- All data should be filtered prior to or at the time it is loaded into your tables.
- Filtering should be applied to all data files, except for reference files.
Common data filters (in no particular order):
- Subject Category - Include or exclude items with a specific category assignment.
- Language - Include or exclude items that have a specific language assignment.
- Product Type - Include or exclude certain product binding types, e.g., paperback.
- Theme - Include or exclude items that have a similar theme assignment.
- Top-Selling by subjects - Use the subject category code of your preference and the Desire file to create a list of the top-selling titles for the subject category. Please see the Desire file specification for more examples.
